How do SAGE, XERO and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC) compare?

It is very important to know where you are with your organisation when deciding which software is right for you. SAGE and XERO are brilliant when you are starting your own business as it is ‘out of the box’ and guides you with pre-set flows from purchase to pay and from sales quotes to banking the cash. BC comes into its own is when the organisation needs more processes and have more users working within the software. Processes, where audit trails, month end, OCR technology and such like showcases the strength of BC.

SAGE and XERO are also limited in that they can only provide standard vanilla reports, which are very good for someone starting out. However, once you have many users, the reporting needs to cater for the different users’ needs. Excel and Power BI are but a few of the tools, which talk with Business Central with ease and forms part of the standard ‘out of the box’ BC offering.

As an organisation grows, they might need more sub-ledgers like job costing and inventory. This would be where SAGE and XERO really falls as they are very good when the company is small and controlled. As soon as processes increase and complexity comes into play, BC surpasses the competition.

In short, if your business is growing now is the time to look at changing from SAGE and XERO and move onto BC because the last thing you would want is that your accounting system is of the oldest technology than anything else you have in the business.

In our next blog, we will go through a list of comparison points between SAGE, XERO and BC.
